Bio Bits

Since it's always good to let your readers know a bit about who you are...

I am a theatre artist/arts educator and writer.

I am an avid gardener, a fierce mother and a lover of the wild world.

I believe in the power of expression to save lives.

I have acted, sung, danced and directed my way across this beautiful country in such places as The National Arts Centre, The Charlottetown Festival, Factory Theatre & Theatre Passe Muraille. I laughed myself silly doing improv comedy with The Second City Touring Co., but my favourite all-time role was playing the part of the Witch in Hansel and Gretl with the Honolulu Symphony.

I write poetry, short stories, monologues, the occasional play, longer works of fiction and impassioned letters to the editor. My writing has been published in Forge Journal (under the pen name Brynn Copeland), The Furious Gazelle, Bread 'n Molasses, & Circa - A Journal of Historical Fiction, to name a few. A portion of my novel, Traeh Gnul - Miranda's Journey from the Great Forest, won the 2014 Writer's Federation of New Brunswick Young Adult Fiction Prize. My novella, JAZZ, won the 2014 Ken Klonsky Novella Prize and is now available through Quattro Books.

I play and work with children of all ages with a view to awakening a sense of joy and wonder. I design and facilitate experiential learning programs in the theatre and literary arts. Over the years I have had the honour of working with Learning through the Arts, ArtStarts, World Vision (Storyteller in the Schools), at the Bayview MacMillan Center, and with the Center for Child Learning. Since moving to New Brunswick, my husband and I have completed three artist residencies, and in the 2014/15 school year, will serve as Artist-in-Residence at Miramichi Valley High School (thanks to funding from ArtSmart) working with students to weave together sound and spoken word. I facilitate creative writing workshops through WFNB's Writers in the Schools Program, and am currently Writer-in-Residence at James M. Hill High School (thanks to funding from the Govt. of N.B.)

I am the Artistic Director of Kidplayhouse Productions - a not-for-profit arts organization located in Miramichi, N.B. We offer innovative classes in the theatre and musical arts.

I live in a small house in the woods with my composer husband, Glenn, and three eccentric cats. I love my life.
